Bourbonnais, Ill. - Jumping out to a two sets to zero lead, the Illinois Tech men's volleyball team was extended to five sets before pulling out the 3-2 victory over Olivet Nazarene University Saturday night. With the win, the Scarlet Hawks evened their season record to 1-1. The Tigers dropped to 0-9 overall.
Jumping out to a two set lead, the Hawks could never get untracked in the third set, as the Tigers went on a 4-0 run early to break a 4-4 tie, en route to the set victory.
The Hawks held the lead midway through the fourth set before another 4-0 run propelled Olivet to the fourth set victory, evening the match at two sets all.
Illinois Tech fell behind 10-4 in the final set before a 6-0 run tied the score at 10-10. The teams traded points up to 14 all before the Hawks took the set 16-14 on back-to-back blocks by Jackson Van Engen.
