Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at the Keating Sports Center, winning the nightcap 3-0 over Olivet Nazarene University after dropping the opener to North Park University 3-1. The Scarlet Hawks moved to 3-2 on the season.
The Hawks got out to a good start in the opener against North Park, using a four point run in the first set to take an 11-4 lead en route to a 25-18 set victory. North Park countered with a six-point run to open the second set and never looked back in a 25-17 set win. In the third set, Illinois Tech held set point at 24-19, but the Vikings stormed back with six straight points to eventually take set three at 27-25. The fourth set was a back and forth affair, but after an early 6-5 lead the Hawks would never hold the advantage again, as the Vikings closed out the set 25-23 to take the match.
In the late match against Olivet Nazarene, a four-point run late in the opening set gave the Hawks a 21-16 lead en route to the 25-21 set victory. In the middle set, the Hawks used an 11-4 run to put distance between them and the Tigers, with Illinois Tech securing set two 25-17. In the final set, the Tigers closed within two points late before the Hawks fired off six straight points to win the set 25-17 and take the match.
