Men's Volleyball Falls to Concordia Wisconsin 3-1

Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's volleyball team started off strong in their conference match with Concordia University Wisconsin Wednesday night at the Keating Center. The Scarlet Hawks won the opening set before the Falcons rattled of three straight set wins to take the match 3-1. The Scarlet Hawks dropped to 5-8 overall (1-2 NACC), and have lost six matches in a row after opening the season winning five of their first seven matches. The Falcons improved to 5-5 overall (3-1 NACC).

The teams were tied 12-12 midway through the first set before the Hawks went on a 5-1 run to put distance between themselves and the Falcons, en route to the 25-20 first set victory.

The Falcons flipped the script in the second set, holding a 12-11 lead over the Hawks before Concordia completed a 5-0 run to take a 17-11 lead, ultimately taking the set two victory 25-22.

In set three, the Hawks and Falcons were tied 8-8 until the Falcons completed a 10-1 run to take command of the set, and take the match lead 2-1.

Set four saw more even play in the early part of the set before the Falcons completed runs of 4-0 and 10-1 to secure the set and the match.

  • Riley Laite paced the Hawks with 11 kills, and a .556 attack percentage.
  • Jackson Van Engen added nine kills and eight digs.
  • Grant Couper finished with eight kills and eight digs.
  • Lucas Guanes had 37 assists.
  • Jack Bovone had 12 digs in the contest.
  • The Falcons were led by Spencer Herman (16 kills), Logan Kebisek (34 assists and 12 digs), and James Althoff (4 service aces).

  • The Hawks will head to Wisconsin this weekend, with a 7pm match at Edgewood College on Friday, March 4th and a 1pm match at Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, March 5th.
