Men's Volleyball Sweeps Edgewood

Madison, Wis. - The Illinois Tech men's volleyball team started their weekend in Wisconsin in strong fashion, as the Scarlet Hawks swept the Edgewood College Eagles 3-0 Friday night in a NACC matchup. With the win, the Scarlet Hawks snapped their six-game losing streak, moved to 6-8 overall and evened their NACC record at 2-2. The Eagles fell to 4-9 overall (1-2 NACC).

The Eagles jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the first set before the Hawks chipped away to tie the set at 15-15 and 18-18. The Hawks closed out the opening frame taking seven of the last nine points.

Set two saw the Scarlet Hawks take command of the match, as the Eagles never held the lead and only held a tie score at 1-1. Illinois Tech finished with a 7-1 run to take the second stanza.

Set three was played much closer throughout. The Eagles were within one point at 17-16 before the Hawks completed runs of 3-0 and 4-0 to close out the set and the match.

  • Michal Markevych paced the Hawks with 10 kills, a .421 attack percentage and four blocks.
  • Jackson Van Engen was credited with seven blocks on the evening.
  • Lucas Guanes had 24 assists and seven digs.
  • Alec Donald had eight digs in the contest.
  • The Eagles were led by Christopher Kahler (11 kills), Keegan Talbott (22 assists), and Gavin Patterson (3 service aces, 7 digs, 5 blocks).
