Chicago, Ill. - The Illinois Tech men's volleyball battled but couldn't get past Cal Lutheran, falling to The Kingsmen 3-0 in a non-conference matchup Friday night at the Keating Center. The Scarlet Hawks fell to 9-12 on the season. The Kingsmen improved to 15-8 overall.
After falling behind 6-2 in the opening set, the Scarlet Hawks battled back, and closed within one point at 12-11. The Kingsmen responded by winning five of the next six points to take a 17-12 lead, en route to a 25-20 set one victory.
Set two saw the Hawks fall behind 4-2, before the Hawks won eight of the next 11 points to take a 10-7 lead. They maintained an 18-15 lead late in the set before Cal Lutheran made their charge, taking eight of the next nine points to take a 23-19 lead, before closing out set two 25-21.
In set three, the Hawks would not get any closer than one point, which came early in the set at 4-3. The Kingsmen followed up with an 8-2 run to take a 12-5 lead, and finished the set and the match with the same seven point advantage, 25-18.
