Eagles Defeat Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team embarked on a Saturday-afternoon home affair against Edgewood College. The Scarlet Hawks dropped a 79-42 decision to the second place Eagles.

IIT falls to 0-18, 0-13 NACC while Edgewood improves to 18-2, 13-2 NACC, which clinches them a spot in the NACC Women's Basketball Tournament for the first time since 2014-15. The Eagles are only three years removed from an 0-25 season.

Erin Nelson, who missed the previous two games to injury, registered a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds while Erin Efimoff led her team with 16 points. Leading scorer Shannon O'Donnell was held to just seven points and no free throw attempts after she entered Saturday with a NACC-leading 116 free throws made and 164 free throw attempts.

Seventeen Edgewood players saw playing time, with 11 of them scoring points. Parker Fetherson recorded a game-high 24 points (seven three-pointers made) off the bench while Sydney Ignoffo (five three-pointers made) recorded 17 points in a reserve role. Bria Lemirande paced the Eagles at the glass with nine boards. 

The Scarlet Hawks will return to action on Wednesday, February 5 at home against Alverno College at 7:00 p.m.
