Women's Basketball Falls Short To Lakeland

Chicago, Ill. - Playing a Lakeland team the Illinois Tech women's basketball squad lost to six days earlier by 34 points, the Scarlet Hawks put together a much stronger performance, but still fell short of the Muskies 66-50 Saturday afternoon at the Keating Sports Center. The Scarlet Hawks dropped to 4-13 overall(1-10 NACC). The Muskies improved to 9-8(5-5 NACC).

The Hawks were even with the Muskies at 6-6 midway through the first quarter before Lakeland went on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter leading 18-13.

Illinois Tech kept it within five point six minutes into the second quarter before Lakeland completed an 11-4 run to enter the break leading 35-23.

The Muskies extended their lead to 21 points through three quarters of play, but the Hawks responded with their best quarter of the game, outscoring Lakeland 15-10 in the final frame.

Free throws were a big factor in the outcome of the game, as Lakeland converted on 18 of 20 from the free throw stripe for a 90 percent average.

  • Kacey Gardner led the Muskies with 13 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
  • Ellie Felsinger added nine points and seven rebounds.
  • 11 different players scored for the Muskies.
