Women's Basketball Dominates Alverno to Pick Up Third NACC Victory

Chicago, Ill. - Behind a red-out crowd, the Illinois Tech women's basketball team took on the Alverno College Inferno inside the Keating Sports Center in a Wednesday night Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) contest. From the opening basket to the final buzzer, the Hawks (5-10, 3-6) led the Inferno (2-13, 0-9) the whole way. At the final buzzer, the Hawks secured their third conference victory as they defeated the Inferno 83-51.

All nine of the Hawks players recorded at least one basket.

First Half (Illinois Tech 40 - Alverno 24)

  • Back-to-back three from Allie Sillo opened the contest as the Hawks went up 6-0 on the Inferno with 7:38 remaining in the first quarter. The Inferno's hit a three of their own for their first basket of the contest at 7:18. The rest of the quarter consisted of 3 3-points, 4 free throws, and a jump shot for the Hawks. They were able to hold the Inferno to just two jump shots and a layup. At the end of the first quarter, the Hawks held a 21-9 lead. 

  • Continuing to extend their lead, the Hawks were dominating the Inferno offensively. While the Inferno were able to put up some numbers, the Hawks controlled their comfortable lead through the second quarter. By the end of the quarter, the Hawks held a 18-point, 42-24 lead over the Inferno. 

Second Half (Illinois Tech 41 - Alverno 27)

  • The baskets continue to flow for the Hawks coming out of halftime. After an Inferno basket to begin the third quarter, Julia Bucci and Camden Joko both recorded a three. Between 9:06 and 5:29, the Hawks went on a 14-0 run. Grace Goodnough made the Hawks 50th point at 7:20 to take a 50-26 lead. The Inferno were held to just 10 points during the 10 minutes of action, while the Hawks added on 27 to take a 69-34 lead at the end of the quarter. 

  • In the fourth quarter the Hawks continued to build on their lead. With 6:51 remaining in the game, Kaya Jones made a jump shot, giving the Hawks a 41-point, 75-34 lead, the biggest lead of the contest. At the final buzzer, the Hawks secured their third NACC victory as they defeated the Inferno 83-51. 

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Bucci led the Hawks with 25 points. Bucci finished with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

  • Sillo picked up 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. 

  • Goodnough rounded out the Hawks double-digit scorers with 11 points. She tied for the lead in rebounds with 7. 

Inferno Standouts

  • Coming off the bench, Kyla Jamerson led the Inferno with 14 points, 6 rebounds. 

  • Mya Roberts followed with 8 points. She added on 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Hawks finished 25-of-57 (43.9%) from the field, 11-of-22 (50.0%) from three, and made 22-of-34 (64.7%) of their free throws. The Inferno finished 19-of-66 (28.8%), 3-of-16 (18.8%), and 10-of-15 (66.7%) respectively.

  • The Hawks outrebounded the Inferno 48-38.

  • Illinois Tech finished with 17 assists.
