CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's lacrosse team faced its toughest test of the season to date on Saturday, taking on the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference's (MWLC) leading team and defending champion: Hamline University. Because the Pipers (9-0, 6-0 MWLC) started fast and built a lead, the Scarlet Hawks (6-3, 6-2 MWLC) were defeated 15-8.

How it Happened

  • Thanks to some great passing to set up opportunities, the Pipers scored three goals in the first 10 minutes. Alyssa DeLuca scored off of a Mallory Tognetti pass to give the Scarlet Hawks one tally over the same span.
  • After Shanie Scoles scored off of a DeLuca assist to pull Tech to within one, Hamline went on its largest run of the match. The Pipers scored five goals in a row to take an 8-2 lead with 8:19 left in the first half.
  • DeLuca scored a man-up goal from a Brooke Rowan assist with 4:31 left, but the Pipers scored once more to bring a 9-4 advantage into halftime.
  • Rowan dished two assists in the first six minutes of the second half as Tech trimmed the lead to four at 10-6, but the Pipers went on another run, this time 3-0, to go up seven at 13-6 with 14: 23 remaining.
  • Despite two more goals from Scoles the rest of the way, Hamline was able to remain strong and answer those tallies with goals of their own.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Scoles tallied five goals and five draw controls, both of which led the Scarlet Hawks.
  • Rowan had three assists to lead the team.
  • DeLuca had two goals, one assists, and four ground balls.
