Shanie Scoles Breaks Scarlet Hawks Single-Game Points Record in 20-17 Victory Over Edgewood

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team made the trek to Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday to face the Edgewood College Eagles. Shane Scoles' school record 14 points (10g, 4a) and 18 shots powered the Scarlet Hawks past Edgewood 20-17.

Illinois Tech's first victory of 2021 gives them a 1-2, 1-2 NACC record while Edgewood falls to 1-7, 0-2 NACC.

The Scarlet Hawks led from start-to-finish, but it came with a late-game push on Edgewood's behalf. Scoles' six goals and three assists in the opening half helped Illinois Tech attain a 13-6 halftime lead before Edgewood held a 25-11 advantage in shots, and an 11-7 scoring edge in the second half. The Scarlet Hawks held a 20-14 lead with 4:02 left in the contest before Edgewood ended things with three-straight goals to make the score 20-17.

Scoles broke here own single-game scoring mark of 12 points achieved against Marian (Wis.) on March 23, 2019. Her 10 goals tied Alyssa DeLuca's single-game school record mark set on April 1, 2017. The previous single-game shots record was 17, also held by Scoles, on March 7, 2020. 

The Eagles outshot Illinois Tech 44-33. Kendra Sanderfoot led the Eagles scorers with eight goals and one assist.

Scoles also finished the contest with four draw controls and two ground balls. Audrey Shaw was also effective for the Scarlet Hawks offense with four goals and one assist. Brooke Rowan led all players with eight draw controls. 

Caitlin Davitt made 15 saves in net for the Scarlet Hawks, while her counterpart Alexis Vogt stopped 11 shots for Edgewood. 

The Scarlet Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, April 20 at Benedictine. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
