CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Tech women's soccer team (11-2-1, 6-1 NACC) won its second straight match and held onto a share of second place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings on Wednesday with a dominant victory of Marian University (5-9, 2-5 NACC). Tech held the Sabres without a shot in the first half while scoring three times, adding two more late goals to secure the 5-1 win.

How it Happened

  • Katie Hoefgen put the Scarlet Hawks ahead early, gathering the ball after a short pass from Caeli Kennedy for the easy score in the sixth minute.
  • The Scarlet Hawks peppered Marian keeper Amy Birner with shots, but Birner was able to hold strong until Hoefgen struck again in the 26th minute. Juila Honda took a pass off of a short corner kick and lofted Hoefgen a beautiful pass for her second goal.
  • Just even minutes later, Jamie Griggs took a deflection from a cross and fired it past Birner for Tech's third and final tally of the first half.
  • More quick-strike offense occurred for Tech in the second half, as Cosette Thompson and Julia Taliana combined to feed each other on goals in a 35 second span.
  • In the 64th minute, Taliana found Thompson on a great cross from right to left for the score. Under a minute later, Thompson returned the favor with a pass to the center of the offensive zone, which Taliana converted.
  • Marian picked up a late goal courtsey of Allyson VanZeeland to get on the scoreboard.
