Women Fall to Hornets

Women Fall to Hornets

Kalamazoo, Michigan- The Illinois Institute of Technology men's and women's swim teams traveled to Michigan and took on the Kalamazoo Hornets. The men's team improved to 4-0 overall, while the women dropped to 1-3.

The meet was started with back to back wins in the 400 medley relays. The women's team used a huge breaststroke split, from Freshman Anna Slominski, to come from behind and win their relay. Slominski would win her individual events (200 IM, 200 breaststroke), also.  The men's team got a big contribution from Junior Ryan Escasa, on the butterfly leg, and ran down their opponents on the last half of the race. Escasa would chip in with an event win, and season best performance, in the 200 butterfly.

The women would continue to string together event wins, but ultimately Kalamazoo's team depth proved too much for the Scarlet Hawks. Katy Lydon and Megan Burrill continued their strong individual seasons, each picking up the only other event wins for the Scarlet Hawks. Lydon won the 200 and 500 freestyles, by multiple bodylengths, and Burrill won the 200 butterfly by over a bodylength.

The Scarlet Hawk men continued their hot start, and got event wins from: Seth Wissenbach (1000 freestyle), Kanoa Sawai (200 IM, 100 freestyle), Mark Klinchin (200 freestyle), Sam Kalenowski (200 breaststroke), and Eric Zhang (200 backstroke).

This is the first time, in at least the last five years, that the men's program has started the season with 4 straight wins.

Both programs will travel to Carthage this weekend. The meet is on Saturday, November 16th, at 1:00 P.M.
