Strong Competition Highlighted Illinois Tech's Outing at Cardinal Opener

RESULTS

NAPERVILLE, ILL.—The second indoor meet of 2020 pitted the Illinois Institute of Technology women's track & field team at the North Central College (Ill.) Cardinal Opener on Friday evening. The Scarlet Hawks netted 10 points, which secured them seventh place. The host North Central College (Ill.) claimed the team title with 201 points. 

Mminika Effiong highlighted the IIT sprints group with an 18th-place time of 8.76 in the 60 meter dash, and a 25th-place time of 29.90 in the 200 meter dash. The distance portion was all Erin Nelson, who crossed the finish line at 2:53.08 in the 800 meter run en route to 16th place. Nelson followed that with a 20th-place time of 6:13.50 in the mile run. Abigail Schulz clocked-in a 22:17.88 in the 5000 meter run, good enough for third place. 

The Scarlet Hawks will return to the track on Friday, January 24 at the UW-Parkside Ranger Relays.
