Hawks can't keep pace in NACC Tuesday night showdown

River Forest, Ill. - The Tech women's volleyball team returned to River Forest for the second time this week to take on Concordia University. The Hawks (6-18, 2-8 NACC) fell behind early and couldn't recover as the Cougars (10-16, 4-6 NACC) took the conference matchup 3-1

How It Happened

  • The Hawks got out to a slow start in game 1 as they fell behind 15-5.
  • After a 4 point run by Tech, the Cougars recovered with a 10-3 run to close out the game 25-12 to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Game 2 saw the Cougars come screaming out of the gates taking the first 7 points.
  • The Hawks battled evenly throughout the rest of the set but were unable to erase the deficit as the host Concordia took game 2 25-18.
  • The third set saw the two teams battle evenly but the Hawks capitalized on multiple 3 point runs to secure the victory in Game 3 25-22.
  • The Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the 4th game but a quick 5 point run by the Cougars gave them the lead for good as they were able to take game 25-21 and the match with a final score of 3-1.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Sara Hassell had a great showing with 20 kills to lead the Hawks offensively. Karen Marrufo-Zubara and Justine Bracco contributed with 7 and 6 kills respectively.
  • Allison Wilkins and Courtney Darling led the way in the distribution category with 22 and 18 assists on the night.
  • Marrufo-Zubara and Sinjin Acuna both chipped in 16 digs on the evening to pace Tech defensively.
