Women's Volleyball Sweeps Rockford 3-0

Chicago, Ill. – First-year player Zoe Michael had a match to remember, leading the Illinois Tech women's volleyball team with 16 kills and 14 receptions, as the Scarlet Hawks swept Rockford University 3-0 in NACC play Tuesday night at the Keating Sports Center. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 3-2 in conference play, and 11-5 overall. The Regents dropped to 0-5 in the NACC and 3-13 overall.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech 3 – Rockford 0

  • Rockford held a very early 2-1 lead in the first set, but that would be the last advantage they would hold in the opening frame. The Scarlet Hawks went on a 6-0 run to open up a 7-2 lead, and then followed with a 10-0 run to post a 19-5 lead, anchored by Allison Wilkins with nine straight serves, including one service ace. The Regents battled back late in the set to close within eight before falling 25-16.
  • Set two saw even play between the Regents and the Scarlet Hawks through the middle of the set. A kill by Della Crain put the Regents up 11-10. The Hawks retook the lead, however, completing a 6-0 run for a 16-11 advantage. The Regents closed within three points twice, including late when they trailed 20-17. The Scarlet Hawks answered with a 5-0 run to close out the set 25-17, with Grace Reckamp in serve for the final four Hawk points.
  • The Scarlet Hawks opened up a 4-0 lead in set three and never trailed. Rockford did close within one point, trailing 5-4. The Hawks responded by winning 12 of the next 14 points to stake to a 17-6 lead. The Regents closed within eight points, trailing 20-12, but could not get any closer as the Hawks won the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.

  • Michael with 16 kills, 14 receptions, 8 digs and 2 blocks. Michael's attack percentage for the match was .444
  • Sadie Harrington added 5 kills and 4 blocks.
  • Briar Moore with 4 kills, 10 receptions and 1 service ace.
  • Maria Fernanda Alcantara with 4 kills and 2 blocks.
  • Wilkins paced the Hawks with 14 assists, while adding 1 service ace.
  • Reckamp had 13 assists and 2 service aces.
  • Stephanie Nguyen led the Scarlet Hawks with 10 digs.
