Women's Volleyball Improves To 4-2 In NACC Play - Downs Alverno 3-0

Chicago, Ill. – First-year player Ana Jones had nine kills, junior Sadie Harrington had eight kills, and the Illinois Tech women's volleyball team swept visiting Alverno College 3-0 Friday night in NACC matchup at the Keating Sports Center. The Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-2 in conference play, and 12-5 overall. The Inferno dropped to 0-6 in the NACC and 4-12 overall.

How It Happened

Illinois Tech 3 – Alverno 0

  • After a very early tie at 1-1 in the first set, the Scarlet Hawks went on a 14-4 run to take command of the set at 15-5. The Hawks finished with a 10-4 run to take set one 25-9.
  • The Scarlet Hawks opened set two with an early 3-0 advantage. The teams traded points for a 6-3 Hawks lead. A 3-0 run by Illinois Tech forced Alverno to call a timeout, trailing 9-3. The Inferno responded to the timeout by taking the next three points, cutting their deficit to 9-6. The Hawks countered with their own 3-0 run to reclaim a six-point lead at 12-6. Alverno would get climb back to within three points at 16-13 after a Rolin West kill. But the Scarlet Hawks closed out the match taking nine of the next thirteen points for the 25-17 set two victory.
  • The final set was the most contested of the match. Alverno jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but a kill each by Jones and London Francis, along with a service ace by Sasami Cavan tied the match at 4-4. A kill by Alverno's Selena Upshur in the middle of the set gave the Inferno a 10-8 lead. A 5-0 counter by the Hawks gave them a 13-10 lead they would hold for the remainder of the match, winning set three 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Jones with 9 kills, 14 receptions, and 3 digs. Jones finished with a .600 attack percentage.
  • Harrington with 8 kills, 1 block and a .667 attack percentage.
  • Francis had 5 kills with a .400 attack percentage.
  • Grace Reckamp had 12 assists and 1 service ace.
  • Cavan added 11 assists with 1 service ace.
  • Jessica Weaver had 3 services aces to go along with 2 blocks.
  • Kelsey Starnes with 2 service aces and 5 receptions.
