Scarlet Hawks Impress at NCAA Division III Midwest Regional

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology women's cross country squad recently capped their 2019 campaign at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Four Scarlet Hawks competed in the race, where Erin Nelson led the charge in 178th place with a career-best 26:20.5.

"I thought we were able to close out the 2019 season strong," said Scarlet Hawks head women's cross country coach Tyler McQuality. "We haven't been at our best the last couple of meets and I thought we were closer to that today. We are doing all the right things internally with our culture and that tells me that the results will come eventually. The highlight of the day was Abigail running a minute PR on a muddy course. She has come a long way this fall. Overall, we will use this experience to learn, grow and come back this track season and next fall better from it."

Following Nelson was Abigail Schulz, who came in 203rd place with a career-best 27:15.2. Zoey Krevitz notched a 247th-place time of 32:09.5 while Madalyn Urig rounded out the IIT women in 257th place with a 36:50.9.

"I am extremely proud of how the team responded despite the snowy, muddy conditions," said assistant women's cross country coach Desmond Meyer. "The women were tough once again as Abigail had a one-minute personal record on a muddy course. Abigail was a great addition to the team this year; although there may have been some tough times during the season, she showed great toughness, and her results showed at regionals. We have had great leadership from our seniors and team captains all year, and I believe that is important in order for this program to grow. I am excited for this upcoming track season with this great group of kids."
