Tech Goalkeepers win USCAA Weekly Honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- It was a strong week defensively for both the men's and women's soccer programs at Illinois Institute of Technology. Because of the performances, Tech has received recognition, as both Roxanne Myers and Anastasios Manolis have been named Goalkeeper of the Week for their respective sports for the week of September 13-20.

A senior, Myers recorded two shutouts and allowed just one goal in three matches for the week. She totaled 12 saves, stopping five shots in a 1-0 defeat at North Park on Wednesday, five more in Saturday's 1-0 Homecoming win over Maranatha, and two more shots in Monday's 11-0 win over Morton College. This is her second weekly honor of the season, as the California native was Division III Independents Player of the Week for the events of August 31-September 8.

Manolis earns the honor for the first time of his collegiate career. Just a freshman, the Orland Park, Ill. product recorded three shutouts and talled 11 saves in just over six halves of soccer. He stopped two shots in Tech's 1-0 overtime win against Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday, six in the team's 2-0 win over Coe in Saturday's Homecoming match, and three more in a 1-0 win over Blackburn on Sunday.

Men's Soccer competes next on Friday night at home in a 5:00 p.m. match against West Virginia Tech. Women's Soccer competes on the road on Saturday at Anderson (Ind.) at noon.
