Scarlet Hawk Weekly: Women’s Soccer’s Scarlet Hawk Classic Highlights a Busy Week Ahead

CHICAGO, Ill.- With five different Fall programs in full swing for Illinois Institute of Technology athletics, schedules figure to be very busy through early November. This upcoming week is no different, as all five programs will compete between now and Sunday.

Women’s Volleyball (4-1) starts this week’s action off with a match at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. The Scarlet Hawks look to build off of a strong weekend, as the team swept the competition at the Buc Blast Tournament at Beloit College in just 14 total sets. Tech squared off against Moody Bible twice last season, winning 3-1 in the Keating Sports Center and 3-0 at Moody Bible.

Two matches await Men’s Soccer (1-1-1) this week. Tech will travel to Michigan for the first match, opposing USCAA opponent Andrews on Friday at 3:00 p.m. Andrews has yet to play a match this season, as the Cardinals open the season on Wednesday at Holy Cross College. Illinois Tech put together an impressive match against Andrews last season, winning 10-1 in Chicago.

On Sunday, Tech will host NCAA Division III’s St. Norbert’s, who hold a 2-1 record as of posting time with five goals on the season.

Women’s Soccer (1-2) may be the busiest team of the week, as Roshane Ellison’s squad will play host to the Scarlet Hawk Classic at Stuart Field from Friday through Sunday. Illinois Tech kicks off the action on Friday night with a 7:00 p.m. match against Muskingum. The NCAA Division III school has struggled out of the gate, dropping both matches by a combined score of 13-1.

After North Park and Coe square off on Saturday, the Scarlet Hawks will oppose Coe at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Another Division III institution, Coe has been very impressive thus far, posting a 4-0 record and outscoring opponents 13-3. The Scarlet Hawks played a tough match at Coe last season, falling 2-1 in two overtimes despite a goal from Anida Phetchanpheng and 12 saves from Roxanne Myers.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country also compete this week, as they will travel to southeastern Wisconsin on Saturday morning for the UW-Parkside Midwest Open. The two teams look to build off strong meets at the Elmhurst Earlybird Classic last Friday, as Cole Dammeier (22nd place) led a ninth-place finish for the men while Caitlyn Brunner (10th place) highlighted a women’s squad that had three Top 50 finishers. Saturday’s meet is set for a 10:00 a.m. start at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis.
