Three Scarlet Hawks Nab DIII Independents Weekly Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.- The Association of Division III Independents announced its weekly award winners for the week of September 8-14, and three Illinois Institute of Technology Student-Athletes were honored. Women's Volleyball's Irena Grauzinis, Men's Cross Country's Samuel Weitlispach, and Women's Cross Country's Caitlyn Brunner all were recognized for their performances.

Women's Volleyball one competed in one match last week, but Grauzinis' stellar match against Moody Bible Institute was more than enough to garner recognition. The junior tallied 19 kills (4.75/set), a .250 hitting percentage, and 17 digs (4.25/set) in Tech's 3-1 win on the road. Women's Volleyball takes the court next on Saturday, when the Scarlet Hawks host Lakeland College for two matches (11:00 a.m./1:00 p.m.).

Weitlispach and Brunner earned honors for their performances at the UW-Parkside Midwest Open. In the men's 8k, Weitlispach placed 41st out of 133 participants with a 27:40.8 time. Brunner earned her second straight weekly honor from the DIII Independents with a 66th place finish out of 174 competitiors in the women's 5k (20:07.9). Both Illinois Tech men's and women's cross country will compete on Saturday morning in the Wheaton College Gil Dodds Invitational (women at 10:00 a.m., men at 10:45 a.m.).
