Ten in a Row for Tech Baseball

Watertown, Wisconsin. – Illinois Tech Baseball traveled north on Friday to take on the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats. Good all-around baseball on the day led to a 4-0 win followed was a 16-3 win in game two. The Hawks are now 12-2 on the season overall after the 2 game sweep of the Sabercats extending their winning streak to 10 games.

 

Game 1

 

Three pitchers came together to combine for the 3 hit shutout in game one. Elliot Chibe got the start and the win to make him (2-0) on the season. Chibe went a scheduled 3.0 innings allowing 2 hits, with no runs, 2 strikeouts and one walk. James Tarala was next into the game for his scheduled 3.0 innings where he allowed just one hit, no runs, with 4 strikeouts and no walks. Michael Malfeo finished the game with his 1.0 inning in the 7th allowing no hits, no runs, with one strikeout and no walks. 

The Tech offense completed the game with 4 runs on 5 hits and no errors. William Cronin had two of the games hits while Sam Pung had one hit and 2 runs scored. Kyle Bumpass contributed with one hit and a run batted in (RBI). The turning point in the game was in the 2nd inning when Ryan Fitzpatrick hit a line drive over the left fielder's head to plate 3 baserunners Pung, Darwin Argumedo and Brian Colon-Rodriguez.

 

Game 2

 

In the second game Tech came out full force with the bats scoring 16 runs, on 19 total hits, committing no errors. Seven Hawks registered multiple hits in the game with Austin Boos leading the charge as he went 4-4 and scored 4 runs, William Cronin had 3 hits, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, Michael Malfeo ended with 2 hits and 5 RBI. Kyle Bumpass added 2 hits, 1 run scored and 2 RBI, Andrew Lamkin had 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI, Alex Babusci tabbed 3 hits, 3 runs and 1 RBI ending with Ryan Fitzpatrick who hit safely 2 times with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Three more Hawks came together for another victory on the mound. Starter Ryan Fitzpatrick went 4.0 innings getting the winning decision (1-0) allowing 6 hits, 3 runs (all earned), with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. William Sierzega came in for the 5th and 6th innings. Over the 2.0 innings he allowed 1 hit with no runs, and no walks. To finish it off for the Hawks Matt Bishop went 1.0 inning with no hits, no runs on 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

Tech baseball extends the winning streak to 10 games now.
