Tech Drops Game After Big Lead

AngolaIndiana -Illinois Tech Baseball lost its first game since March 16th today against Trine University. With non-preferable weather conditions, IIT struggled to keep Trine off the scoreboard. IIT got out to an 8-2 lead through the top of the 4th inning but unfortunately couldn't hold on the rest of the way. This loss drops the Hawks to an overall record of 12-3 on the season.

James Tarala made the start going 4.2 innings allowing 10 hits, 7 runs (5 earned), with 2 strikeouts and 4 walks. Tarala got a no decision in the game and Cory Winiecki was awarded the loss (1-3) for his efforts. Winiecki went 1.0+ innings with 3 hits, 6 runs (all earned), with 3 walks. Andrew Lamkin pitched the final 2.1 innings with 2 hits, no runs, on 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.

"Our bats did enough to win today. With wet, cold, windy conditions like this and we go out and score 11 runs it should have been enough to win," said Head Coach Scott Marks. Tech put up 7 runs in the 2nd inning to get out to a solid lead, with a few hits, some walks, and Trine errors to help. Through 4 innings IIT still had a 8-3 lead, Michael Malfeo added to his season total of hits with 3 more, and 2 runs scored. Brian Colon-Rodriguez had a multi-hit game with 2 hits, 2 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.
