Comeback Win for Tech Baseball

Comeback Win for Tech Baseball

Grand Rapids, Mich. – Tech baseball travelled up to Calvin College and came out on top with a 4-2 and 8-2 sweep. The team's overall record is now 17-4 and the start of another win streak.

Game 1

Elliot Chibe (3-1) made the start for the Hawks and went one out shy of the complete game going 6.2 innings with 8 hits, 2 runs (all earned), 1 strikeout and no walks. Michael Malfeo came in to close the game out for his 4th save on the season with a strikeout of the only batter he faced.

Calvin College scored two runs in the home section of the 3rd inning with a double right down the line and a sacrifice fly. But then the pitching of Chibe/Malfeo shut the door the rest of the way. Tech in the 6th inning took the lead for good off of a double by Malfeo scoring William Cronin.  That was followed by a Brian Colon-Rodriguez home run; his 6th on the season.  The Hawks added one more for insurance in the top of the 7th as Malfeo doubled again, scoring Austin Boos.

"This was a tournament style win for us today against a team that is very strong on both sides of the ball." Said Head Coach Scott Marks after the game.

Game 2

In game two, Kyle Bumpass (3-0) went a complete game allowing 10 hits but only 2 runs (1 earned) with no walks and 3 strikeouts.

The lineup came up big in the second game with 12 hits of their own to get the 8 runners across the plate. In the 3rd inning Malfeo hit his 3rd double of the day to score Ryan Fitzpatrick followed by Colon singling home Malfeo. In the 6th inning Boos singled to score two runners, Darwin Argumedo and James Tarala. William Cronin singled to score Fitzpatrick and Colon doubled to score Malfeo and Cronin. In the visitors half of the final inning IIT added one more on a wild pitch to seal the 8-2 victory.
