Baseball Now With A 21-9 Record On the Season

 

Chicago, Ill – Tech baseball had a rough day on the mound and lost a double dip to the University of Chicago with scores of 11-3 and 10-6.

Game 1

Pitchers James Tarala, Cory Winiecki, William Sierzega, and Conner Wiebell combined for the 6.0 innings allowing 11 runs (8 earned) on 10 hits and passed out 6 walks as well as the Hawks defense committed 2 errors. Coach Scott Marks said, "When we give up that many free bases it makes it very hard for any offense to overcome the deficit." Hitters Michael Malfeo and Brian Colon-Rodriguez both had 2 hits. Both Malfeo's hits were doubles and Colon drove in a run.

 

Game 2

In game 2 Illinois Tech out hit the Maroons of Chicago and played cleaner defense but could not get the big hits while leaving 10 runners on base. IIT had hits from all starters but one in the game. With Darwin Argumedo with a double and two singles, driving in one run and scoring once. Austin Boos and Ryan Fitzpatrick each had two hits in the contest. Cory Winiecki (3-2) got the loss in the game  in his 4.2 innings with 8 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Andrew Lamkin finished the final 1.1 innings with 2 runs on 2 hits, with 2 walks and one strikeout.

Tech will finish the season next weekend at home against Robert Morris-Springfield and heading on to the USCAA National Tournament May 13-16th in Hampton, Virginia.
