Duke, Escasa Named LAC Swimmers of the Week

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Liberal Arts Conference has announced its swimmers of the week for action between November 16-22. It is a clean sweep for Illinois Institute of Technology, as both Jasmine Duke and Julian Escasa each have been named Swimmer of the Week for their respective sides.

A freshman, Duke qualified for finals and set personal bests in all three of her individual events at University of Chicago's Phoenix Fall Classic, placing 13th in the 100 Yard Freestyle (55.02s), 11th in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:00.85), and 13th in the 50 Yard Freestyle (25.61s). She also swam on four of five relays, posting strong splits in each event. Tech finished in fourth place out of 10 teams at Chicago.

Escasa, another freshman, qualified for finals in all three of his individual events as well. The Chicago native placed fourth in the 100 Yard Freestyle (48.01s), sixth in the 100 Yard Butterfly (52.71s), and fifth in the 50 Yard Freestyle (22.04s). He also swam on four of five relays, including leading off the 800 Freestyle Relay with a split of 1:47.35. Escasa's performance helped the men finish second out of eight teams at Chicago.

Men's and women's swimming and diving is back in action on Saturday, December 5 when Tech hosts the Ted Erikson Invite at 1:00 p.m. at Keating Sports Center's Ekco Pool.
