Men’s Basketball Drops Close Contest

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- On the first day of the Illinois College Tournament, Illinois Institute of Technology fell to the host Blueboys. A strong second half led the Blueboys to a 77-70 win.

How it Happened

  • In a back-and-forth first half, Samuel Rarick was dominant. The junior poured in 16 points and had a stretch of six straight points in the middle of the half.  
  • Tech took its largest lead of the game, 38-34, on a Jake Digiorgio jump shot with two minutes left in the half. A Jake Bruns jumper of Tech's final possession of the half gave the Scarlet Hawks a 40-37 lead going into the half.
  • Illinois College made a big run to start the second half, outscoring the Hawks 21-4 through the first 8:45 of the half to go up 58-44.
  • Behind the scoring of Digorgio and Anthony Mosley Jr., Tech put themselves back into the game and pulled to within four (74-70) on a Rarick layup with 22 seconds to play.
  • The Blueboys would make free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Rarick led the Hawks with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting. He also added four rebounds.
  • Digorgio scored 14 second-half points to finish with 20 for the game along with 14 rebounds and three steals.
  • Mosley Jr. put together a solid line of 16 points, five rebounds, and seven assists.
  • Bruns played 30 minutes off the bench, tallying eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Blueboy Notes

  • Cody Hildebrand led IC with 21 points.

Stats to Know

  • Tech outshot IC 44.8% to 42.9%, but took 12 fewer shots (70-58).
  • Illinois College outrebounded Tech 48-39.
  • The two teams were a combined 5-31 from three-point range.
