MacMurray Tops Tech, Digiorgio Named All-Tournament Team

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.- Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball finished up the Illinois College Tournament on Saturday. Tech dropped another close matchup to MacMurray College 88-83.

How it Happened

  • Tech took control early on in the game, building a few eight-point leads before breaking through to lead by 14 points at half.
  • Samuel Rarick and Jake Digiorgio recorded eye-popping numbers in the second half, with Rarick scoring 16 points and Digiorgio putting in a double-double (15 points, 12 rebounds).
  • However, MacMurray's offense caught fire and shot 71.4% from the field (25-of-35) over the final 20 minutes. MacMurray took its first lead of the game on a Kollin Keltner three-pointer with 14:56 remaining to go up 53-52.
  • Tech would keep things close and re-take a four-point lead with 2:43 remaining on a Rarick lay-up, but MacMurray scored 11 of the game's final 13 points to win 88-83.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Digiorgio put together a solid game with 21 points, 19 rebounds, two blocks, and an 8-of-10 performance from the charity stripe. The freshman was named All-Tournament team, as the Michigan native averaged 20.5 points and 16.5 rebounds in the two contests. 
  • Rarick led Tech in scoring for the second straight game, dropping 26 on 13-of-19 shooting.
  • Parker Joncus scored 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
  • Anthony Mosley Jr. had his second-straight seven assist game. He added seven points as well.
  • Ryan Barnes scored six points in just eight minutes off the bench.

Stats to Know

  • Tech outshot MacMurray 54.2% to 51.4%, but attempted 13 fewer shots (72-59).
  • The Scarlet Hawks were 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line compared to just 5-of-14 (35.7%) from MacMurray.
  • Tech turned the ball over 22 times compared to 17 for MacMurray.
