Second Half Surge Comes Up Short Against Carthage

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team hosted Carthage College on Tuesday night. After trailing at halftime by 19, Tech cut the deficit to within five points late. Carthage pulled away in the final two minutes to win 87-77.

How it Happened

  • Carthage took an early lead before a steal and score from Anthony Mosley Jr. tied the game at 11 with 12:50 left in the first half. 
  • From that point forward, Carthage would build a lead and never relinquish it, using a 7-for-12 three-point barrage in the first half to bring the lead to 48-29 at the break.
  • Tech went to work early in the second half chipping away at the deficit. Behind the scoring of Mosley and Samuel Rarick, Tech cut the lead to 10 at 62-52 with 10:18 left in the second half, promting a Carthage timeout.
  • The Scarlet Hawks then withstood a Red Men run and would manage to cut the lead down to five at 70-65 with 4:43 left to play.
  • Carthage begun to pull away, as after the Scarlet Hawks made it 75-70 with 2:35 left, a Carthage three-pointer from Sean Valentine and then a jumper from Jordon Kedrowski built the lead back to 10. The lead would hold as Carthage withstood a Tech press to win 87-77.

  • Mosley tallied 20 points, seven rebounds, and game-highs in assists (six) and steals (six).
  • Rarick scored a game-high 24 points.
  • Parker Joncus hit three three-point attempts in the second half and scored 12 points on the night.
  • Jake Digiorgio added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
