CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team won its first game of the season on Friday night. Tech downed Knox College at home 80-63.
How it Happened
- Tech put forth a dominant showing early, putting on full-court pressure to tally two steals and record a 10-0 run in the game's first 94 seconds.
- Knox cut the lead to seven, but that was as close as the Prairie Fire would get for the rest of the contest. Tech rode double-digit scoring outputs from Samuel Rarick (12 points) and Anthony Mosley Jr. (11 points) in the first half to take a 45-35 halftime advantage.
- It was more of the same for the Scarlet Hawks in the second half, as Tech put Knox in foul trouble and attempted 15 free throws in the 20 minutes. A Jake Digiorgio free throw at the 6:53 mark gave Tech its largest lead of the night at 19 (73-54).
- Tech tightened up defensivley late, allowing just one point over the final 2:46 to win 80-63.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Rarick tallied a game-high 24 points with eight rebounds, three assists, and a game-high five steals.
- Mosley Jr. poured in 20 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
- Digiorgio recorded his fifth double-double in eight contests (13 points, 12 rebounds).
- Parker Joncus scored nine points, six of which came in the game's first two minutes.
Stats to Know
- Illinois Tech shot 49.8% on 32-of-65 shooting, which is the team's second-best mark on the year.
- Tech attempted 23 free throws compared to just eight for Knox.
- Tech outrebounded Knox 45-31.
- The Scarlet Hawks tallied 13 steals and forced 21 turnovers.
