TERRE HAUTE, Ind..- The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team took home its second win on the season on Thursday night, earning a road victory for the first time this season in Terre Haute, Indiana at Rose-Hulman. A 39-33 second half output helped Tech earn the 83-78 win.
How it Happened
- While Tech never trailed by more than seven, Rose-Hulman spent most of the first half with the lead.
- It wasn't until almost 12 minutes into the game when Illinois Tech took its first lead. An Anthony Mosley Jr. free throw put teh Scarlet Hawks up 22-21 with 8:02 left in the half.
- Team traded leads for the rest of the half, but two layups in the final minute from the Fightin' Engineers gave Rose-Hulman a 45-44 heading into the 15-minute break.
- The Scarlet Hawks asserted themselves early in half number two, taking a 51-48 lead at the 17:58 mark on a Jake Digiorgio three-pointer.
- Rose-Hulman scored the next four points to re-take the lead, but Jason Morris responded to give the Hawks the lead for good. The guard hit three-pointers in consecutive possessions, giving Tech it's largest lead of the night at the time (57-52).
- Illinois Tech would never relinquish the advantage, building it to as high as 12.
- Rose-Hulman came to within six with 23 seconds left, but the Scarlet Hawks held on for the victory.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Mosley Jr. scored over 20 points for the third straight game, leading Tech with 25 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists, and a season-high three blocks.
- Both Samuel Rarick (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Jake Digiorgio (12 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks) recorded double-doubles. Digiorgio now has seven double-doubles on the season.
- Morris (pictured) scored eight points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
Rose-Hulman Notes
- Matt Loesing led all scorers with 25 points.
- Charlie Aimonte led all bench scorers with 14 points.
Stats to Know
- The Scarlet Hawks eclipsed the 80-point mark for the third straight contest.
- Illinois Tech attempted 14 fewer shots than Rose-Hulman (76-62), but shot a higher percentage (46.8% compared to 40.2%).
- Tech outrebounded the Fightin' Engineers 43-39.
- The Scarlet Hawks won despite dishing out fewer assists (23-10) and recording more turnovers (13-7) than Rose-Hulman.
