Men's Basketball Drops Opening Game of Dubuque Tournament

DUBUQUE, Iowa- Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball was back in action on Tuesday night after a week's rest. Tech took on host University of Dubuque at the Dubuque Tournament, falling 67-51.

How it Happened

  • Dubuque took control early, as after the Scarlet Hawks took a 5-4 lead, the hosts built an advantage. Dubuque went on a 14-0 run in the first half to lead 24-8 with 12:18 remaining.
  • Tech would get the lead down to 10 late in the half, but Dubuque closed it out strong. Andre Norris hit a jump shot on Dubuque's final possession to give his team a 37-23 halftime advantage.
  • Parker Joncus hit a three-pointer to open up the second half scoring, but Tech went cold over the next three minutes. Anthony Mosley Jr. scored eight straight Tech points in the middle of the half, but the defense was unable to get stops as Dubuque led by as many as 17.
  • Both teams went through a scoring drought of over three minutes from the 9:21 mark until the 6:07 mark. Offense picked up for both teams late, but Dubuque held on to win 67-51.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Jake Digiorgio recorded another double-double with 11 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. 
  • Mosley led the Scarlet Hawks with 14 points.
  • Samuel Rarick tied Digiorgio in rebounds with 12.

Dubuque Notes

  • Norris led all scorers with 18 points.

Stats to Know

  • Both teams shot below 40 percent from the field (Tech: 39.2%, Dubuque: 34.9%), but Dubuque attempted 63 shots compared to Tech's 51.
  • The Scarlet Hawks turned the ball over 18 times compared to just seven for Dubuque.
  • The 51 points is a season-low for Illinois Tech.
  • Digiorgio's double-double is his ninth on the season and fifth consecutive.
