Men's Basketball Drops Marathon Against Trinity International

CHICAGO, Ill. - In a double-overtime affair that featured 12 ties and 10 lead changes, Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball fell to Trinity International 103-98.

How it Happened

  • Playing shorthanded in the frontcourt, Illinois Tech still managed to dominate the glass early, holding the Trojans to just one offensive rebound in the first 10 minutes and built a 20-10 lead.
  • Trinity used the three-point shot to pull back to within two at the 6:34 mark, but Tech was able to hold off the run and pull ahead 37-31 at halftime.
  • The Trojans came out of the half strong, forcing Tech to call two timeouts in the first five minutes and take a 50-48 lead at the 14:06 mark. It was Trinity's first lead since 5-4 at 17:30 in the first half.
  • Tech trailed over the next two minutes, but quickly took momentum back on two fastbreaks. Jake Bruns tied the score with the corner three off an Anthony Mosley Jr. pass. On the next possession, Mosley Jr. found Quentin Forberg on the fastbreak in the same spot on the floor as Bruns to put Tech on top 56-53 with 11:26 left.
  • The three-point shot remained hot for Tech, as Bruns and Parker Joncus knocked down triples, once again from Mosley Jr., to go up 66-61. Forberg knocked down another three at the 6:39 mark to build the lead to six.
  • The six-point lead would be the largest Tech would have the rest of the night, as Trinity reeled the Hawks back in and took a late lead. Joncus tied the score at 73 at the 2:38 mark with another triple.
  • With Trinity up 77-75 on Tech's final possession, Mosley Jr, hit a driving lay-up with two seconds left to tie the score. Trinity's Luke Mead threw up a 60-foot prayer at the buzzer, which rimmed out, sending the game to overtime.
  • Trinity jumped out to an 88-84 lead in the first overtime, but Tech closed the gap and forced a second overtime. The teams were even at 13-13 after the five minute frame, as Joncus knocked down a jumper with 13 seconds left.
  • Tech hung around in the second overtime courtsey of Mosley Jr., as the freshman hit two shots to tie the score at 98-98 with 2:10 left.
  • Trinity pulled away, scoring on two straight possessions in the final minutes and holding Tech's offense scoreless.
