Men's Basketball Downed by Oberlin

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team hosted Oberlin College on Martin Luther King Jr. Day afternoon. Tech fell 81-61.

How it Happened

  • After Tech Jake Digiorgio scored immeaditley after the opening tip, the Scarlet Hawks offense went cold for most of the first half. Tech wouldn't score again until a Jason Morris lay-up at the 15:12 mark as Oberlin built a 7-2 lead.
  • Anthony Mosley Jr. hit a triple at the 14:43 mark before Tech suffered another drought. The Yeomen defense held the Hawks scoreless for over three minutes to push the lead to 15-7.
  • Despite Mosley Jr.'s effective first half (15 points on 5-of-9 shooting), Oberlin controlled the tempo to lead 40-26 at halftime.
  • In the second half, Oberlin started quickly and used the momentum to build the lead to 32 with seven minutes to play.
  • Tech closed out the game strong, as Morris along with reserves Jake Bruns, Anders Bybjerg, Akena Latigo, and Vignesh Rajagopal cut the lead to 20 by game's end.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Mosley Jr. led all players with 23 points and seven rebounds.
  • Bruns tallied a season-high 13 points, hitting three three-point field goals in just 18 minutes.
  • Morris netted nine points and a team-high five assists.
  • Byjberg (pictured) added a season-high five boards.

  • Nathan Cohen scored 16 points to lead Oberlin. He was 4-of-5 from three-point land.

Stats to Know

  • Oberlin won the turnover battle 16-10. Tech committed 10 turnovers in the game's first 10 minutes.
  • Both teams struggled from the foul line (Tech- 59.4%, Oberlin- 60.0%)
  • Oberlin shot 51.7% from the floor. Tech was 41.3%.
