Men's Basketball Earns Second Straight Win

Men's Basketball Earns Second Straight Win

CHICAGO, Ill - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team won its second game in a row on Tuesday night, wrapping up a seven-game homestand with a 72-61 win over St. Mary's (Minnesota).

How it Happened

  • The Scarlet Hawks never trailed in the contest in large part due to the team's incredible start. Tech built up a 12-point lead at the 12:56 mark, not allowing a made basket over the first four and a half minutes. All five starters scored as Tech led 15-3 early.
  • Parker Joncus hit his first three three-point attempts of the contest to help extend the lead. The Cardinals offense found a rythym late in the first half, but Anthony Mosley Jr. scored nine straight points for the Hawks over a four-minute span to help Tech offset the SMU run. Samuel Rarick scored four of his 11 half first points in the final two minutes of the second half to give the Hawks a 36-27 advantage at halftime.
  • Tech's defense was strong again to start the second half, holding the Cardinals to just seven points over the first six and a half minutes.
  • SMU's Bradley Hill made things interesting, scoring eight points over a four minute span in the middle of the second half to pull the Cardinals within seven at 49-42.
  • Mosley Jr. would prove to be too much, scoring most of his 16 second-half points down the stretch as Tech pulled away for the victory.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Mosley Jr. followed up his D3 Independents Player of the Week award with his eighth consecutive 20-point performance. The freshman scored 27 on the night, tying a career-high.
  • Rarick played well in his return to action, notching a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Joncus scored 10 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc (3-of-4).
  • Jake Bruns added nine points off the bench.
  • Jake Digiorgio scored seven points to go along with 11 rebounds.

Cardinal Notes

  • Quashingm Smith-Pugh led SMU with 16 points.
