CHICAGO, Ill. - The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team hosted its final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon, taking on the UC-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Despite a valiant effort late, the Scarlet Hawks fell 74-64.
How it Happened
- Both teams started the game very sluggish, struggling to get any offense going. Both teams went on droughts of over three minutes as the score was just 6-6 at the 10:00 mark.
- Santa Cruz's offense started to click down the strech in the first half, using a balanced attack to build a 33-25 halftime advantage.
- The Banana Slugs went up 11 early in the second half, but the Scarlet Hawks cut the advantage down to four at the 15:09 mark after a Jason Morris free throw.
- However, the Slugs would sieze control, taking a 19-point lead, 61-42, with 7:01 left to go in the contest.
- Tech would not give up without a fight, getting as close as 10 behind six straight points from Anthony Mosley Jr. late. UC Santa-Cruz would make free throws in the closing minutes to hold the lead.
Scarlet Hawk Standouts
- Mosley Jr. led Tech with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He also coralled five rebounds.
- Jake Digiorgio recorded his 12th double-double of the season, recording a monster statline of 16 points, 17 rebounds, and three blocked shots.
- Jake Bruns continued his strong play with 14 points and four made three-pointers.
Banana Slug Bests
- Will Crain led UCSC with 19 points.
Stats to Know
- Tech outrebounded the Slugs 39-28.
- The Scarlet Hawks lost the turnover battle 21-10.
- UCSC tallied 17 assists compared to 11 for the Hawks.
