Max Hisatake Scores 1,000th Career Point in 73-67 Loss at Lakeland

PLYMOUTH, WIS.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball squad have opened a game with the lead in five-of-seven contests heading into Saturday's NACC bout at Lakeland University. That trend continued for the Scarlet Hawks as they jumped to a 10-3 advantage at the 15:41 mark of the first, but it didn't result in a victory as they dropped a 73-67 decision to the Muskies.

Max Hisatake, who led all players with 25 points, drained his 1,000th career point with 11:11 remaining in the second half off a layup and free throw that narrowed the Scarlet Hawks' deficit to 54-51. The senior also recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds along with a pair of blocks. Hisatake entered Saturday's bout leading the NACC in double doubles, which also ranked him ninth in NCAA Division III. Miles Curry also chipped in a double double for IIT with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

The Scarlet Hawks fall to 1-7, 1-4 NACC while the Muskies improve to 5-4, 3-1 NACC.

IIT found themselves in a hole at the 4:11 mark of the opening frame when the Muskies grabbed a 29-27 cushion off a pair of Jequan Pegeese free throws. That sparked the Scarlet Hawks' 14-2 run to close the first half that was capped at the buzzer when Ahmad Muhammad sank a trio of free throws after he was fouled on his half-court shot, giving his team a 41-31 advantage.

Muhammad gave IIT their largest lead of the game at 43-31 off a jumper with 19:28 left in the second half, which ignited a Lakeland squad that outscored the Scarlet Hawks 42-26 in the final frame en route to a 73-67 victory.

The Muskies, who finished the contest with a 20-56 (.357) field goal percentage, held IIT to an 0-for-9 three-point shooting mark in the second half. Jequan Pegeese paced Lakeland with 19 points.

The Scarlet Hawks will face Olivet College at the Hope College RDV/Sentinel Classic in Holland, Michigan on Friday, December 27 at 4:00 p.m. (CT).
