Scarlet Hawks Pick Up First NACC Road Victory of 2019-20 at Edgewood

MADISON, WIS.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's basketball team was in pursuit of their first NACC road win of 2019-20 at Edgewood College on Wednesday night.

Mission accomplished.

The Scarlet Hawks came through with a 66-56 victory over the Eagles, and have now won three of their last four games. It marks their second road win of the season after a 72-58 decision over Hope College on December 28.

The Scarlet Hawks improve to 9-13, 7-10 NACC while Edgewood falls to 7-15, 6-11 NACC.

"I thought our defense was great as they only gave up 56 points," said IIT head men's basketball coach Todd Kelly. "When you give up only 56 points and turn the ball over just 10 times, you give yourself a great opportunity to win. It was the first time we got a road win in a really long time, and our backs were against the wall knowing its a due or die game. Our guys have a little confidence now winning a few games in a row, so hopefully this can lead into senior day on Saturday."

Max Hisatake converted his third straight 20-rebound performance along with 13 points, a season-high six assists and three blocks, which gave him his 17th double double of the season. Ahmad Muhammad shot lights out for IIT with a team-leading 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the three-point line. Miles Curry shot 5-of-8 from the floor en route to 14 points while Otis Reale came off the bench with 10 points to round out the Scarlet Hawks in double figures.

Jake Negus paced Edgewood with a game-high 19 points.

Both teams protected the ball as they combined for just 15 turnovers in the contest. They traded the lead six times throughout the first half before Muhammad's three-pointer with 5:02 left in the first gave IIT the lead for good at 25-22. It sparked an 11-2 Scarlet Hawk run to close the frame, which gave them a 33-24 lead at halftime. It was an advantage they didn't surrender in a 66-56 victory.

The Scarlet Hawks will host Aurora University on Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m.
