Illinois Tech Men's Soccer Falls to Trine University

Chicago, IL– Illinois Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead before surrendering six straight goals in a 6-1 defeat to Trine University on Friday at Stuart Field. The home side was lackluster for most of the 90 minutes and was punished by a hungry Trine side looking to kick start their campaign. The Scarlett Hawks fall to a season record of 1-1-2.

The home side started brightly enough with junior Roman Zwarycz netting inside 4 minutes. Trine goalkeeper, Chris Stewart, ventured out of the area to make a clearance only to see his effort blocked by an onrushing Zwarycz. The ball fell kindly for the winger who calmly passed the ball into an empty net.

The lead was short lived however with Trine's Kenny Rappuhn getting in behind the Tech back line and slotting past goalkeeper Bart Grabowski with a clinical finish on the 6 minute mark. The Hawks suffered further blows as senior midfielderRobert Rixer and goal scorer Roman Zwarycz were carted off with injuries midway through the first half.

Zach O'Brien grabbed his first of the night in the 26th minute before Bill Wilson added two goals in 2 minutes just after the half hour mark for Trine. O'Brien added his second of the night in the 74th minute to make the score 5-1 before Hawks center back, Nathan McMahon, inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper to round out the scoring for the visitors.

Illinois Tech outshot Trine 18-17 for the game but could not find the back of the net after their initial goal.

The Scarlett Hawks host an undefeated Indiana Tech on Sunday, September 8th at 3:30 pm at home on Stuart Field.
