Illinois Tech Men's Soccer Victorious on the Road 2-1

Anderson, IN - The Scarlet Hawks got back on the winner's column with a 2-1 win away to Anderson University. A pair of goals in the first half led to a more subdued second half with the visitors happy to sit on their one goal advantage.

The game started at a frenetic pace with both teams looking to gain the upper hand early. Anderson forward Todd Canal found himself in behind the Hawks defense twice within the opening minutes but was unable to capitalize. The forward found his way through again in the 7th minute thanks to some sloppy defending but this time managed to find the back of the net to give the home side the lead.

Three minutes later the visitors were level with Rex Meier's deep corner kick was met by center back Nordine Amlaiky whose bullet header could not be stopped by the Anderson goal keeper. It was the Frenchman's first goal of the campaign and appeared to bring the Hawks back to life after a slow start.

The visitors kept pressing in search of a second goal and after a strong passage of play, were rewarded when Tommy Gasienica headed home from close range. Midfielder Brandon Ramirez started the move down the left wing when his cross found sophomore, Samuel Smith. The Indiana native headed across goal to find Gasienica unmarked at the back post with the marksman making no mistake from 3 yards to give the visitors a much deserved lead.

With the lead, IIT appeared to sit back and absorb the pressure in the second half with the home side desperate to find an equalizer. The visiting Hawks were able to survive a late onslaught and run down the clock to cruise to their second win of the season.

The Scarlett Hawks go into their all-important first conference game with a 2-2-2 record and face a formidable Trinity Christian side at home on Saturday at 3:30pm. This game will be the second half of a Illinois Tech Women's and Men's Soccer doubleheader as part of the 2013 Homecoming Weekend.
