Men Swim Past Lawrence in First Dual Since December

The Scarlet Hawks swimming and diving teams headed up I-94 on Saturday for an early afternoon matchup against the Lawrence University Vikings. Coming off the most intense training weeks of their season, both squads from IIT posted some impressive times and exhibited good race efforts despite their fatigued bodies.

On the men's side, Illinois Tech won the meet over Lawrence in a final score of 142-42. Several athletes swam their fastest times ever, including Connor McGuire finishing in 1:55.59 for second place in the 200 Freestyle, Kevin Boldt touching in 57.33 seconds for first place in the 100 Butterfly, and Jason Voelker racing to a 1:08.52 in the 100 Breaststroke, good for third place in the event. Other notable swims came from Jay Korhonen and Ray Mohaimani, first and second respectively in the 100 Backstroke (57.97 and 58.52), Billy Bafia taking it to the field in the 100 Breast (1:03.38), and Tanner Grieve with two quick 50 Freestyle splits on relays and a first place finish in the 100 free (22.69, 22.56, and 50.73). Joe Valio continues to improve as the lone man on the boards for IIT since picking up the diving event earlier this year.

Next weekend IIT is doubling up with back-to-back contests in Dubuque, IA against Loras College (Friday, January 23 at 7 pm) and in Milwaukee, WI against Carroll University (Saturday, January 24 at 1 pm).
