Scarlet Hawks in Third After Day Two of Liberal Arts Championships

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Illinois Tech Men are in third place with 145 points after the second day of the Liberal Arts Championships. With two days to go, the men trail Luther College by 1.5 points (146.5). Franklin College currently sits atop the competition with 208.6 points.

The Scarlet Hawks led off the evening session of finals with a fifth place finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Tanner Grieve, Ray Mohaimani, Luke Workman and Billy Bafia finished with a time of 1:28.16.  In the next event, the 500 Freestyle, Joe Valio finished 12th (5:01.17), while Workman came in third (4:45.64) and Junior Kevin Boldt finished in the runner-up spot in 4:44.53.

Mohaimani swam to a seventh place finish in the 200 Individual Medley with a final time of 2:00.64, and Freshman Jay Korhonen came in fourth in the same event with a lifetime best swim of 1:56.93.

The sprinters had their work cut out for them, as Grieve qualified for the 50 Freestyle event in 15th and Bafia in a tie for seventh. Grieve ended up 10th overall with a final time of 22.16, while Bafia moved up a spot to sixth with a finish of 22.02.

The final event of the evening was the 400 Medley Relay. The Scarlet Hawks were ranked sixth heading into the event. The relay team of Mohaimani, Bafia, Grieve and Boldt moved up three places to finish third overall with a final time of 3:36.05.

Swimming and diving action continues on Friday, February 13 with Day Three of the four-day event.
