Scarlet Hawks Notch Seven First-Place Finishes in Win Over Lake Forest

CHICAGO—The Illinois Institute of Technology men's swimming & diving squad hosted Lake Forest College in their final regular season meet of 2019-20 on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks defeated Lake Forest 116-88 and finished the day with seven first-place times.

The Scarlet Hawks improve to 8-2 in dual meets. 

"Great relay swimming today helped us build confidence in our final dual meet of the season," said IIT head men's and women's swimming & diving coach Andy Parro. "We hope to carry this momentum while we clean up a few mistakes during our final few weeks of training. Hats off to our seniors Miles and John for a great four years racing together."

Eric Zhang registered a first-place time of 1:49.21 in the 200 freestyle. The top two spots on the 50 yard freestyle podium belonged to Samuel Kastan (22.20) and Tyler Van Wagener (22.72). Kanoa Sawai (1:59.83) and Ryan Escasa (2:05.97) accomplished that same feat in the 200 yard individual medley. Escasa kept the first-place trend alive in the 200 yard butterfly when he crossed the finish line at 2:01.77. Van Wagener clocked-in a second-place time of 49.59 in the 100 yard freestyle. 

Samuel Kalenowski claimed gold in the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:18.45. Seth Wissenbach took home silver in the 500 yard freestyle with a 4:57.05, while Matthew Randle accomplished that feat in the 200 yard backstroke with a 2:05.30. Miles Thompson registered third place in the 1650 yard freestyle with a 17:21.09.  

The 400 yard medley relay squad of Kanoa Sawai, Samuel Kastan, Guanghao Ou and Tyler Van Wagener tallied a first-place time of 3:34.51. Sawai, Ou, Kastan and Wissenbach kept things going as they stood atop the 200 yard freestyle relay podium with a 1:29.52.

The Scarlet Hawks will embark on the Liberal Arts Championships hosted by Principia College in Elsah, Illinois on Wednesday, February 12 - Saturday, February 15.
