Men’s Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season

RENSSELAER, Ind. – The Illinois Institute of Technology men's track and field team opened up the outdoor season on a very strong note, putting together several impressive performances at St. Joseph's Gene and Rose Edmonds Invitational.

Meet Highlights

  • Joseph Yassin picked up where he left off during the indoor season, setting a new school record with a first place finish in the javelin throw. He recorded a 54.2m mark, which ranks him 22nd amongst NCAA Division III participants.
  • David Polzin competed in his first meet of the year, placing sixth in the long jump at 6.08m Mark.
  • In the 5000m run, Cole Dammeier placed fifth at 16:30.21.

  • "Across the board, this was a great day," said Head Coach Keith Burke. "The throwers were able to set several school records. It was a great way to begin the outdoor season and I'm excited to see how the rest of the schedule unfolds."
  • Joseph Yassin came in with a strong foundation in the shotput, discus, and javelin," said Assistant Coach Tami Engelman. "He has been able to be continually successful in all of his events through great practice, hard work, and time spent in the weight room. Today was a standout performance with personal bests in the javelin and the hammer, and this is only the beginning for Joe. I expect greater things throughout the 2016 season."
