Brookins, Balizado and DMR Highlight Scarlet Hawks at NACC Indoor Championship

KENOSHA, WIS.—The 2020 NACC Indoor Track & Field Championship was upon the Illinois Institute of Technology Scarlet Hawks, as the men registered seventh place out of nine teams with 35 points. Benedictine University (Ill.) claimed the conference championship with 164.50 points.

The Scarlet Hawks registered a trio of individual champions. Evan Balizado commanded the middle-distance events with a first-place time of 1:59.01 in the 800 meter run. Balizado continued to rake in the hardware for the Scarlet Hawks when he teamed with Jacob Gagner, Thomas Doyle and Louis Ketchman for a time of 10:38.75 in the distance medley relay, good enough for first place. Barry Brookins kept the first-place trend alive in the weight throw with a 14.53m, and a 10th-place mark of 11.67m in the shot put. 

Doyle tallied a seventh-place time of 4:41.35 in the one mile run, while Ketchman was on his heels in eighth place with a 4:47.99. Jacob Gagner paced IIT in the 400 meter dash in 11th-place with a 53.46. Dillon Rattray-Mattis crossed the finish line at 6.91 (13th place) in the 55 meter dash, followed by a 19th-place mark of 24.73 in the 200 meter dash.

The Scarlet Hawks will compete in last chance meets over the next few weeks with hopes to qualify for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship on March 13-14 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
