IIT To Add Men's Volleyball in Spring 2016

The Illinois Institute of Technology will start a varsity men's volleyball team, slated to begin play in the spring of 2016. Men's volleyball is currently a club sport at the university.

"Our schedule should feature some strong NCAA Division III programs throughout the Midwest," says Joe Hakes, Illinois Tech's Athletic Director. "We're looking forward to being able to field competitive teams within the next few years and think the addition of this sport will attract even more good student-athletes to the university."

Katie Zulandt, Head Coach of the IIT women's volleyball team, will also lead the men's program in its inaugural season. Zulandt was named as the Most Valuable Player on her George Washington University squad, and garnered 2nd Team All-A10 Conference status. She also played professionally in both Switzerland and Finland.

"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to build a new men's volleyball program here at IIT," said Zulandt. "Chicago is a fantastic hub for volleyball, and I believe we will be able to draw talented athletes to the school. I look forward to the challenge of competing on a national level and building a program that our players, school, and alumni can be proud of. "
