Men’s Volleyball Ends Season in Victory

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Illinois Tech men's volleyball team closed the season on a strong note, winning the first match in program history on Friday night. Tech downed Adrian College on the road three sets to one.

  • Tech 3, Adrian 1: 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18

How it Happened

  • The first set belonged to Tech. The Scarlet Hawks never trailed, eventually winning the close set on an Alex Babusci kill.
  • In set two, things were back and forth early until Adrian pulled ahead 14-9. However, the Scarlet Hawks closed the set on a 16-6 run, winning 25-20 on an attack error.
  • Set three belonged to Adrian, as Tech never led by more than one point. However, Tech was able to tie the score at 23-23 late on two straight kills from Ryan Barnes. Adrian used a kill and a service ace to stay alive in the match.
  • Set four saw the Scarlet Hawks jump out to a 3-0 lead. After the Bulldogs scored three straight of their own, the Scarlet Hawks went to work building an 18-13 lead. Adrian would pull to within two, but Tech found another gear and won the match 25-18 on another Babusci kill.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Babusci recorded 21 kills, a season-high and the highest mark in program history.
  • Ryan Barnes tallied 15 kills of his own as well as two solo blocks.
  • Kyle Bumpass led the team with three solo blocks.
  • Andrew Woltman tallied 46 assists.
  • Allan Huang led Tech with 14 digs.

Stats to Know

  • Tech's 57 kills, .229 hitting percentage, 51 assists, seven aces, and 58 digs all outdid Adrian.
  • The Bulldogs won the blocks battle 11-6.
