Illinois Tech Bows to Wisconsin-Whitewater

Whitewater, WI- The Illinois Tech women's basketball team played a back-to-back schedule on their trip to Wisconsin where after falling to MSOE on Wednesday, they had to turn around and face a strong Wisconsin-Whitewater team on Thursday. This did not bode well for the Scarlet Hawks who had an issue with depth due to injuries. Wisconsin-Whitewater is having a good season so far, being the only team so far to knock off nationally ranked Wheaton College.

Unfortunately for the Scarlet Hawks, Wisconsin-Whitewater jumped out early with a 21-0 run within the first 6 minutes of the game. Throughout the next 14 minutes of the first half the Scarlet Hawks made some good things happen on offense scoring 18 points led by Kaylee Wicka with 11. At the end of the first half, Wisconsin-Whitewater led 53-18.

The second half saw Wisconsin-Whitewater taking advantage of the Scarlet Hawks lack of depth by subbing consistently. Their bench players made a big impact in the game.  The Scarlet Hawks continued to play hard basketball with Kaylee Wicka putting up 17 points. Sadly for the Scarlet Hawks, freshman phenom and leading scorer Kaylee Wicka was injured and lost for the season. Wisconsin-Whitewater outscored the Scarlet Hawks 40-18 in the second half which propelled them to an impressive 93-36 victory.
