Women Basketball Fall Short Despite Spirited Effort Against Dominican

Chicago, IL- After the loss of leading scorer Kaylee Wicka, Illinois Tech women's basketball regrouped to host Dominican University at Keating Sport Center. Despite the The Scarlet Hawks knew other players needed to step up to compensate for the loss of Wicka and indeed they did.

The first half was a tightly contested match-up between both teams with the score being tied up four different times. With five minutes left in the first half, the game was tied at 23-23 but Dominican closed out the half on a 10-3 run. Jessica Henriques was one of the players that stepped up in Wicka's absence and led the way for the Scarlet Hawks with 9 points in the half. At the end of the first half Dominican led 33-26.

The second half started with the Scarlet Hawks making the first two buckets and cutting the lead to 33-30 until Dominican went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 42-30.  The Hawks couldn't quite recover from the deficit the rest of the way.  Adrianna Maron contributed for the Scarlet hawks with 10 points along with 5 assists, Jessica Henriques stepped up with a double-double; 17pts and 13 rebounds while Michelle Arriola contributed 8 points off the bench. Regardless of the big night from those 3 Scarlet Hawks, Dominican outscored the Scarlet Hawks 29-23 in the second half and pulled away for a 62-49 victory.
