Wanagas Hits Four Threes in Loss to Caltech

LOS ANGELES, Calif.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team opened up the weekend trip to California with a neutral site game against Caltech at Occidental College. The Scarlet Hawks scored a season-high in points, but fell to the Beavers 79-38.

How it Happened

  • After a rough opening frame, the Scarlet Hawks put together a strong effort in the second. Lindsay Zasadzinski was solid off the bench, scoring six points and tallying three rebounds in just for second quarter minutes. Hailey Borowczyk and Rochea Morley also scored in the quarter as the Scarlet Hawks went on an 8-2 run in the last 1:46.
  • Down 42-18 at halftime, Illinois Tech had its best offensive quarter of the day in the third with 12 points scored. However, the Beavers offense found another gear, netting 27 points of their own. The Hawks hit three shots from beyond the arc in the 10 minutes, two from April Wanagas and one from Brooke Bell.
  • In the fourth, the Hawks played the Beavers tough, as Caltech outscored Illinois Tech 10-8 en route to the 79-38 win. Wanagas and Brooke Bell each hit three-point shots once again.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Wanagas had her best statistical game of the season, leading the Hawks with 12 points, all coming on three-point attempts. She also had a team-high four assists and two steals.
  • Brooke Bell added eight points and three rebounds. 
  • Zasadinski tallied six points and a team-high six rebounds in just nine minutes off the bench.
