Tech Defense Tightens in Loss to Dominican

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Illinois Institute of Technology women's basketball team put forth one of its strongest defensive efforts of the season on Monday night against Dominican University. Tech fell to the Stars 56-39. 

How it Happened

  • Tech was strong in the first quarter, leading 12-10 after the first ten minutes. Four different Tech players scored in the frame as the Scarlet Hawks outshot the Stars 35% to 19%.
  • In the second, Dominican's defense clamped down and held the Scarlet Hawks to just four points. Dominican led 22-16 at halftime.
  • Both the Stars and Hawks had their best scoring quarters of the night in the third, combining for 32 points. Dominican outscored Tech 19-13 to take a 41-29 lead. 
  • Dominican began the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to push the lead to 20. Tech outscored the Stars the rest of the way, but fell 56-39.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • April Wanagas (pictured) led the charge for the Tech offense, tallying a season-high 17 points to go along with five rebounds and a team-high six steals.
  • Hailey Borowczyk also reaced double-digits with 10 points.
  • Ade Maron tallied five points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.

Stats to Know

  • Tech's 56 points allowed was a season best.
  • Both teams tallied five blocked shots.
